Flat file profile's Data Elements tab, Element View

The Element View contains configuration options for the individual data elements.

CategoryNameDescription
General OptionsData NameName of selected record in table view.
PositionThe element’s position in the record. You can change an element’s position by dragging it up or down in the list.
MandatoryDetermines if a value should be mandatory or not. For delimited files, you cannot have a mandatory element after a non-mandatory element.
Enforce UniqueUsed to affect a specific field mapping behavior when this profile is referenced as the destination profile in a map (it has no effect when referenced as the source profile). If checked, the map will produce only a single row for each unique value mapped to this field.
Field Size OptionsField Length ValidationDetermines whether data validation should occur on this element (mandatory, length, etc.).
Start Column(Data Positioned files only) Defines the column in which to start reading the element. For example, if the element includes a prefix that you want to exclude, specify the column where you want reading to start. Note: The first column in a data-positioned profile is column 0. Be sure to start counting from 0 when you specify a Start Column value.
Length(Data Positioned files only) Defines the length of the element to be read. Any characters beyond this length are ignored.
Justification(Data Positioned files only) Defines the alignment of data, to the left or right.
Min Length(Delimited files only) Defines the minimum length of the field.
Max Length(Delimited files only) Defines the maximum length of the field.
Data Format OptionsData TypeChoose the element data type and specify a format for the value, if required. For more information about formatting Number and Date elements, see Number Data Type and Date/Time data type topics.
Identity OptionsUse To Identify FormatIn the Record View, if you choose to detect the file format by "Specified unique values," you must indicate which element will contain the unique value, along with that value. Marks this element as a row identifier.
Identity ValueThe value used to identify the given record format.
