Setting MFT preferences in Outlook

You can access MFT Preferences in Outlook's menu by selecting File > MFT Settings.

The following sections provide details on the MFT Settings:

Connection

Connection allows you to set the MFT Server URL.

Enter the following information:

  • Your company's MFT URL(For example, https://companyname.thruinc.net)
  • Your username: (Demo User)
  • Your password: The password that you entered during initial account creation.

Message policies

You can set automatic behavior for sending files based on size or file type.

Attachment management

When "Save Attachments With Sent Items" is selected, all the locally attached files are saved in the Outlook sent items folder.

For example, if you attach a PDF from the desktop and select this option, the PDF will show in the sent folder. If it is not selected, only the MFT stub file (a small text file) will appear.

This option helps to keep local storage under control.

Attachment restrictions

You can set a maximum attachment size for regular attachments sent without MFT.

  • If you set this to 0, all attachments must use MFT.
  • Restrictions can also be placed based on file type.
  • If you try to send a restricted file, a notification will appear.

The notification specifies what rule has been violated and provides you with the options to send an email in MFT Send Mode, Remove ALL Attachments, and Send or do not Send the email.

You can prevent the warning from appearing by setting the policy to "Automatically send without warnings if any restriction is matched", which will direct all emails to only use MFT Send Mode for all attachments.

Proxy settings

You can access the proxy option by clicking the Proxy Settings tab to access the following options:

  • Always use IE proxy settings (not configured)
  • Direct connection
  • Configure proxy server

These settings should be left as the default for proper functionality.
