Google Search Console walkthrough

Google Search Console (GSC) helps website owners monitor and optimize site performance in search results. It offers insights into search traffic, indexing issues, and site security, and lets you submit sitemaps and check URL status.

Integrating Google Search Console with Data Integration enables automated data pipelines, custom data transformations, and centralized reporting. This integration helps businesses analyze and leverage GSC data with other sources for comprehensive insights and improved decision-making.

Connection

To connect GSC with your destination, follow the step-by-step tutorial. Choose a Source Connection after creating a connection.

Reports

Search Analytics report

The Analytics report is the primary data source from Search Console. You query your search traffic data using parameters that you define. The report generates zero or more rows, grouped by the row keys (dimensions) that you define. You must specify a date range of one or more days.

Procedure

  1. Click Sites to load a list of your available sites. Select which sites you wish to generate the report for. If you want the report to include your sites, you can leave this input empty.

  2. Select the Dimensions (keys) to group by. Results are grouped in the order in which you supply these dimensions. The grouping dimension values are combined to create a unique key for each result row.

note

The Search Appearance dimension is exclusive and cannot be combined with any other dimension.

  1. Select the Search Type to filter for:
    "Image": Image search results
    "Video": Video search results
    "Web": [Default] Web search results

    1. Select the Aggregation Type to specify how to aggregate data: "Auto": [Default] Let the service decide the appropriate aggregation type.
      "Page": Aggregate values by URI.
      "Property": Aggregate values by property.
note

Aggregating by property is not possible when you group by page.

  1. Select the dates for the report. Choose your custom date range, or use one from the available options in the time period list.
    • Select the type of time period of the report.
    • It can be a custom date range or a defined time period available in the list (For example, Yesterday, Last Week, Previous Month until today's date, and so on).
info

If selecting Date range:

a. Select the start date and end date.

b. Leave the end date empty to pull data until the river runs.

c. After each run of the river, the start date updates automatically with the end date, and the end date updates with an empty value. This enables the next run to pull data from the end of the previous run.

d. Select the time zone offset. This is relevant only if the end date is empty to determine the river’s run according to the time zone.

e. Days back: Pull data from the given days before the selected start date.

    • If you select any other value (not Date range), select the time zone offset to send the correct dates that consider this offset.
  1. Select the report's Time Resolution (Granularity). This groups the results by each set of dates.
  • Daily creates a row for each date
  • Eeekly creates a row for each week.
  • Total creates a single row for the selected date range.
note

A daily resolution report includes a date column indicating the actual date of the row and the startDate and endDate columns indicating the requested date range from your river.

Sitemaps report

Sitemaps Report lists the sitemaps-entries submitted for this site, or included in the sitemap index file (if you specify the Sitemap Index).

note

The Domain properties are not supported, only URL-prefix properties are supported.

Procedure

  1. Click Sites to load a list of your available sites. Select the sites for which you want to generate the report. Leave this input empty if you want to all your sites to be on the report.
  2. (Optional) Enter a site's sitemap index URL. For example: http://www.example.com/sitemapindex.xml
