Configure an advanced connector
Configure an advanced connector in Boomi Connect to search, configure, and enable the tools that end-users can access through MCP clients.
Prerequisites to configure an advanced connector
Make sure that you fulfill the following requirements before you configure an advanced connector:
- A Boomi Platform account with access to Boomi Connect.
- An IdP configured in Boomi Connect.
- Access to the target application.
- The connection information required by the selected connector.
- The credentials or authorization information required by the target application.
- Sufficient permissions in the target application to search the operations that you want to expose.
Connector-specific connection and authentication requirements can vary.
Add all required tools during the initial configuration. After you enable at least one tool and save the configuration, the configuration becomes read-only. To add, remove, or change tools or other configuration information later, create a new configuration.
Create the connector configuration
- In Boomi Connect, select the advanced connector that you want to configure.
- Create a new configuration.
- Enter a name for the configuration.
- Select the IdP for the configuration.
- Complete the connection fields displayed for the connector.
- Select an authentication type when the connector supports multiple authentication methods.
- Enter the required connection and authentication values.
- Save the configuration.
The advanced connector you select determines the connection fields that appear. These fields can include an application URL, server information, credentials, or other connector-specific values.
Sensitive configuration values are masked in Boomi Connect.
Authorize the connection
Some authentication methods require authorization before you can search for tools.
For Basic authentication, enter the required credentials when you create the configuration. You do not need a separate authorization step before you search for tools.
For an OAuth or authorization-code connection:
- On the Details tab, select Authorize connection.
- Sign in to the target application.
- Review and grant the requested access.
After authorization succeeds, Boomi Connect reuses the generated authorization token while you search and configure tools.
Search and configure tools
In the Tools tab, search for the operations and tools that you want to expose through the connector configuration.
- Select the action or operation that you want to configure.
- Enter any additional search or filter values required by the connector.
- Select Search.
- Select a tool from the search results.
- Edit the tool name, if needed.
- Configure any properties exposed by the selected tool.
- Add the tool to the configuration.
- Repeat steps 1 through 7 for each tool that you want to expose.
The available actions, search criteria, and tool properties depend on what is available in the target endpoint and supported by the connector.
If you provide a value for a tool property during configuration, that value is used when the tool runs. You can also provide some tool properties at runtime. If you provide the same tool property during configuration and at runtime, the runtime value takes precedence. If you do not provide a required value during configuration or at runtime, the tool call fails. Review all required tool properties before you add the tool.
The tools you add appear under Saved tools.
Enable tools
After you finish adding tools, do the following:
- Review the complete set of tools under Saved tools.
- Select Enable tools.
After you enable at least one tool and save the configuration, the configuration becomes read-only. To add, remove, or change tools or other configuration information, create a new configuration.
The tools you enable become available to end-users through MCP clients.
