Adding Categories and Attributes to a Space

Attribute Management lets you organize, track, and govern assets across the Boomi Platform using flexible metadata. You can think of Categories and Attributes as customizable labels that create clear boundaries and definitions for your assets. By assigning Attributes to your Integration Packs (iPacks) within Spaces, you can clearly separate and structure the iPack metadata. This structure makes it much easier for users to filter and quickly find the right Integration Packs they need to install from their Space.

Creating a Category

1. Navigate to the Spaces Application and go to the Attribute Management tab.
2. Click Add Category.
3. Provide a name and description, and click Add.

You can add a maximum of 20 Categories to a Space.

Managing Categories

After creating a Category, you can:

1. Edit the Category name and description.
2. Add Attributes.
3. Delete the Category.
   note

   When you delete a Category that contains Attributes, those Attributes are not deleted. They are moved to the Unassigned Attributes section, where you can either reassign them to a different Category or delete them permanently.

Creating an Attribute

1. Navigate to the Attribute Management page and click a Category on the left pane.
2. In the Attributes list section, click Add Attribute.
3. Provide an Attribute Name and choose its hierarchy (Parent or Child).

The first Attribute you add to a Category is automatically set as a parent and cannot be modified to a child.

4. If you have opted to create a child Attribute in step 3, select the parent Attribute to which to attach this child Attribute.
5. Add a Description, if required, and click Add.
6. Repeat the above steps to add more parent and child Attributes as needed.

Managing Attributes

The Attribute list page for a Category displays the list of parent Attributes and their associated child attributes. In this view you can:

1. Search and filter parent Attributes by Attribute Name.
2. Click the Show icon to view the hierarchical structure of each parent Attribute in a side pane. In this side pane, you can:
   1. Search (filter) child records by Attribute Name.
   2. Edit the child Attribute:
      1. Change the Name or Description.
      2. Convert this Attribute to a parent.
      note

      If you convert a child attribute to a parent, that is, set the Parent Attribute field to Yes, the attribute is moved out of its current parent and appears as a parent attribute on the main Attributes list page.

      3. Change this Attribute's parent to any available parent in the Category.
   3. Delete the child Attribute.
3. Move a parent Attribute to another Category.
4. Delete the parent Attribute.

note

Deleting a parent Attribute deletes all of its child Attributes.
