Managing Discussion Forum Category Topics

The topic is created to discuss issues and ideas. If a certain subject is already being discussed, you can submit your information, views, or opinions on the same topic as a post; however, if the subject is not being discussed, you can create a new topic under an appropriate category to discuss the subject.

Creating Discussion Forum Category Topics

Procedure

1. On the <your portal name> Forums page, click the category subject link. The list of all topics in the category is displayed.

2. Click Start a New Topic.

3. In the Start a New Conversation Topic section, provide the following details:

   The Lock topic and Sticky topic options are only available to an administrator.

   1. In Subject, enter the topic title.
   2. In Body, enter the information about a topic. This is an editable field. To quickly view the markdown reference, click the enhanced Markdown link.
   3. In Tags, enter the meta tags used by search engines to index the page.
   4. In Lock topic, select the checkbox to lock a topic. This prevents users from adding comments.
   5. In Sticky topic, select the checkbox to ensure your topic always appears at the top of the list. If you mark sticky for multiple topics, the last topic marked as sticky appears at the top.

4. Click Preview to preview the newly created topic before it is published.

5. Click Save.

Modifying or Deleting Discussion Forum Category Topics

End users can edit topics created by them, whereas administrators can edit all topics on the Forum page.

Procedure

1. On the <your portal name> Forums page, click the category subject link. The list of all topics in the category is displayed.

2. Click Edit Topic corresponding to the selected topic.

3. Modify the fields as required.

   You can also delete the topic by clicking Delete in the Edit Topic section.

4. Click Preview to preview the newly created topic before it is published.

5. Click Save.
