Monitoring MCP tool usage and runtime instances

Updated

After end-users begin invoking MCP tools, use the administrator interface to review usage and runtime information.

Monitoring MCP tool usage

Use Overview to review tool call volume and usage patterns. The page shows Active Users, Total Tool Calls, Avg Calls / User, Success Rate, and Tool Calls Over Time. It also includes breakdowns for frequently used tools, clients, and users.

  1. In the administrator interface, click Overview on the left navigation.

  2. Select the relevant reporting period, and use the available client or server filters as needed.

  3. Review the summary metrics and Tool Calls Over Time chart. Scroll to the breakdowns for additional activity information.

For client- or agent-related activity, select Agent Usage. To inspect a particular user's information, open Users & Groups, select the user, and review Assigned Profiles, Most Active Clients, Most Used Tools, and Live Activity.

Reviewing MCPX instances and instance behavior

An MCPX instance supplies runtime infrastructure for MCP connections. It differs from an MCP server, which exposes tools that clients use. The administrator interface provides the MCPX Instances page for viewing user-associated runtime instances.

  1. In the administrator interface, select MCPX Instances.

  2. Review the instance list, including Status, Version, CPU/Memory, Eco Mode, and Last Used.

  3. To review instance settings, select Settings, then open Instance Behavior.

  4. Review the available provisioning and idle hibernation controls. When idle hibernation is enabled, an inactive instance can hibernate after the configured interval. The first reconnect after hibernation might take longer while the instance resumes.
