Before understanding connection licenses, you should be familiar with general Process development and basic Process deployment.
Connection licensing is a comparison of purchased Dell Boomi AtomSphere connections versus deployed connections in integration Processes and Atoms. It is important to track the connections you are building into your Processes because there are potential count restrictions when deploying that could prevent you from launching or updating your Process for use in a production setup.
Review connector-specific information in the Building Connectors section. You are not limited by the number of operations you are pairing along with these connections. For example, you can integrate with multiple Salesforce objects as long as you are using the same Salesforce log-in / connection component throughout.
Click the Setup link and go to the Licensing tab for information about your account's connections.
Connection Types
There are two types of connections: purchased connections and deployed connections.
Each AtomSphere edition contains a base number of purchased connections that can be used throughout your deployed Processes. You can actively test any of the connectors in our library as long as you use Test mode.
If you require more connections than are defined as your current purchased count for production-ready integrations, review the troubleshooting tips below and/or contact your sales representative to learn more about edition add-ons. The connections categorized by Edition and Class can be found on our Pricing
page.
Deployed connections refer to the connection components that are built into deployed Processes. See more information on deploying Processes.
Connections are ultimately managed at the Atom level and double per each Process-to-Atom deployment. For example, if you deploy a Process with two unique connections and that process is managed in two different Atoms, then the amount of deployed connections equals four.
- Atom: Manages one or more Processes.
- Process: Contains one or more connections.
- Connection: Contains unique application and data source connectivity information.
Encountering Errors When Deploying Processes
Dell Boomi audits deployments based on the number of unique connections deployed per Atom. If you are receiving an error similar to the message below, then you are exceeding the available count on the Setup > Licensing page. Your new Process version or initial deployment could contain a duplicate or unnecessary connection. Review the troubleshooting tips below for suggestions to prevent this error.

Deployment Troubleshooting Tips
- Unused Processes should no longer be deployed.
- Ensure that all deployed Processes are using the same connection component for a given application or data source.
- The connection component can possess the same name but have a different internal ID if the components are housed in different folders in the Component Explorer.
- The platform will append an incrementing numeric value to a component name if a copy already exists in the folder.
- Deploy a specific Process to only one Atom. Deploying a Process to multiple Atoms will double the connection count.
- Use Test mode. There are only limitations to the number of documents and the document size when executing a Process in Test Mode. This will help you to determine the required connections before you deploy the Process.
