4.1 - Deploying an Atom

Processes run on a specific Atom so before you can execute a Process, you must first deploy an Atom. The Atom is the lightweight, dynamic runtime engine that actually performs the logic and transformations defined by the Process configuration. Atoms can be deployed locally to a machine within your network if the integration scenario includes local resources, or deployed virtually within the Boomi On Demand data center if the integration scenario only involves Internet-accessible applications and data locations.

Please review the Atom System Requirements to ensure your system is compatible if deploying an Atom locally.

Steps to Deploy an Atom

  1. Log into Boomi On Demand.
  2. Click on the Deploy an Atom link in the Getting Started section of the Build Tab.
  3. Choose to deploy a Local or Hosted Atom. This will depend on your specific integration scenario (More...).
    • If Hosted, select Hosted and click OK. A request will be sent to our support staff to provision your Atom shortly. The rest of this article describes the steps for Local deployment.
    • If Local, select Local.
  4. Choose an Operating System (Windows or Linux) and click OK.
  5. Follow the operating system-specific instructions below for Windows or Linux.

Windows

The instructions below describe how to deploy an Atom on a Windows machine. When the installation is complete, the Atom will automatically deploy as a Windows service. Please refer to Starting an Atom for more information on managing an Atom on your local machine.

  1. Click Save to download the installer to your PC.
  2. Once the download is complete, you may need to rename the installer file to add the ".exe" file extension. Once renamed, run the installer. Note: you may see a security verification window; click Run.
  3. Welcome - Click Next.
  4. User Information - Enter your Boomi On Demand User Name and Password. This is required to authenticate the Atom. Enter a name for the Atom. This will be the name of the Atom when viewed from the Atom Explorer on the Manage Tab. This defaults to the local host name but you may wish to change this to something more familiar. Click Next.
    • HTTP Proxy (Optional) - If the local machine uses an HTTP Proxy to connect to the Internet, check the box Use Proxy Settings and enter the appropriate Host, Port, User Name, and Password.
  5. Accounts (Optional) - If your user name has access to multiple accounts, you will need which account to associate this Atom with. This is typically only the case with partners. Click Next.
  6. Select Destination Directory - Select the install directory and click Next. By default the Atom will be installed under C:\Program Files\Boomi On Demand\<Atom name>.
  7. Select Start Menu Folder - Modify any Start Menu settings and shortcuts and click Next.
  8. Information - Review the install settings and click Next. The Atom will install all the necessary files.
  9. Install Complete - When the install is complete click Finish to start the Atom running as a Windows service. You can view the Atom online in the Atom Explorer.

Linux

  1. Save the file locally. Select the location to store the file and the file name and click OK.
  2. Once downloaded, the install wizard can be run via the command line (recommended) or via a graphical user interface (GUI). These instructions will show screen shots from the GUI wizard but the command line steps are analogous.
    • Command Line - Run the installer with the following command with the -c flag: sh /<path>/atom_install.sh -c
    • GUI - Double click the install file (you made need to change the properties to allow executions) or run it from the command line without the command-only flag: sh /<path>/atom_install.sh
Click Next.
  5. Select Destination Directory - Select the install directory and click Next.
  6. Select Directory for Symlinks - Select the directory to store the symlinks or check Don't create symlinks to not create them. Click Next.

Information - Review the install settings and click Next. The Atom will install all the necessary files.
  7. Install Complete - When the install is complete click Finish to start the Atom running as a daemon thread. You can view the Atom online in the Atom Explorer.
