2.2.1 - Build Overview

Dell Boomi AtomSphere applies the Build concept as a means to organize and control data processing. Integration requires data structuring to enable communication between disparate applications. An integration service should allow structured data types to be extracted, manipulated, validated and forwarded. In order to integrate applications directly from the web without coding, AtomSphere uses a built-in visual interface (a "visual designer") to create and direct process flows.

The Build page is where you are able to do the following:

Create Component

Along the left side of the Build page is a place where you can create components. Creating a component is as easy as selecting the type of component, giving it a name, and deciding where to place in your Component Explorer.

Component Explorer

Also on the left side of the Build page is the Component Explorer. The Component Explorer lists all the components that currently exist in the account. Components are grouped by type. You can create folders to organize components in any desired manner. In the Component Explorer you can click the blue drop down arrow ( ) next to any folder or component to perform a number of different actions.

Welcome Tab

The links on the Welcome tab provide a quick way to:

  • Open a recently used item
  • Create a integration Process, Atom, Molecule, and more
  • Get Help.

Process Canvas

When you create or edit a Process, it opens on the Process canvas on a new tab. The Process canvas is the online tool that supplies the visual interface to build or edit your integration work flow. It facilitates the construction of multiple integrations by providing a configurable set of components ("steps") that can be linked together to form a complete data process.

The Process canvas gives you a full screen view of the integration. From here you can add existing components or create new ones to add to your Process.

Process Steps

  • Execution steps -- These steps transport and manipulate the data being passed through the Process.
  • Logic steps -- These steps control the processing path of the data being passed through the Process.

Where Does an Integration Process Begin and End

  • Starting -- All processing begins in the Start step that is supplied in each new Process. An inbound Connector is most commonly embedded in the Start step to extract the data for further processing.
  • Stopping -- Any execution path built in a Process ends where a Stop step is defined.
